July 22, 2006 - TRAVERSE CITY, Mich. – The Rockford RiverHawks battled, but wasted another good performance by starting pitcher Garrett Bauer as they lost to the Traverse City Beach Bums in 10 innings, 3-2.

Bauer gave up two runs in seven innings of work, but left with the game tied at two. The bullpen finally lost it when Beau Massey gave up a two-out, bases-loaded single to Nick Batkoski in the tenth. The winning run was the responsibility of Dave Dowling (4-2), who pitched 2 1/3 innings of relief.

Jake Bowen went 3-for-3 for Rockford, including scoring the RiverHawks' first run on a Matt Sauls single in the third inning, then driving in the tying run in the seventh inning with a single. Bowen was also hit by a pitch.

Robbie McClellan struck out eight RiverHawks in seven innings of work for Traverse City, one shy of his career high set back in 2004. Jordan Thomson followed with two scoreless innings of relief and Hunter Davis (3-2) got the win by pitching a scoreless tenth.

The RiverHawks lose their first series in Traverse City, two games to one. The team now returns to Loves Park for the start of a season-long nine-game homestand. They'll play Kalamazoo, River City and Evansville. The Kings will be in town first, beginning play on Sunday at 6:05.

The RiverHawks are members of the Frontier League, a 10-team independent professional baseball league in its 14th season.
