« Back

July 21, 2006 - TRAVERSE CITY, Mich. – The Traverse City Beach Bums took advantage of four Rockford errors to score eight unearned runs off the RiverHawks and get an 8-1 route.

Starting pitcher Joe Barbosa (3-3) lasted just 2/3 of an inning, giving up five of the unearned runs on three hits in the shortest outing of his professional career.

Adam Kroft relieved him and gave up the other three runs in 3 1/3 innings of work. Auggie Rodriguez pitched three scoreless innings of relief and Ryan Brnardic followed that up with a scoreless eighth inning.

The RiverHawks committed errors in the first and second innings, and had two in the fourth.

The offense was not much more effective against Traverse City's Steve Shippey. Shippey (5-3) went seven innings and allowed just one run for his second win against the RiverHawks this season. He threw a two-hit shutout against Rockford on June 12.

Rockford managed just five hits on the night.

The two teams will play the rubber game on Saturday. Following that contest, the RiverHawks will return to Loves Park for the start of a nine-game homestand against Kalamazoo, River City and Evansville.

The RiverHawks are members of the Frontier League, a 10-team independent professional baseball league in its 14th season.
