July 14, 2006 - WASHINGTON, Penn. – The Rockford RiverHawks took three days off for the Frontier League All-Star break, but came back with the same problem that plagued them during the first half. The offense struggled once more against three Washington Wild Things pitchers in a 4-2 loss.

The RiverHawks managed just four hits in the ball game and never led. They trailed 2-0 after two innings after Washington got a walk, three straight base hits, and an error to score twice in the second.

Rockford got one back in the fourth when Matt Sauls led off with a home run, the first hit off Wild Things starter Tom Cochran. It was Sauls' third home run of the season.

The Wild Things got it back in the bottom of the inning off Rockford starter Tanner Watson, who started off the inning with a walk to Andy Hudak, then hit Chris Carter. After striking out Kyle Werman, Watson gave up a single to Brett Grandstrand to load the bases and Chris Sidick hit a sacrifice fly.

Rockford again rallied for one. Joe Anthonsen led off the fifth inning with a double, and he scored on a single from Brad Dutton.

The Wild Things quickly answered once more, capitalizing on a pair of two-out walks when Carter hit an RBI single.

Rockford got just one more hit the rest of the way as Cochran (2-4) got the win. Watson (4-3) gave up three earned runs in five innings of work, walking a season-high five in the loss.

Jim Popp pitched a 1-2-3 ninth with two strikeouts for his eighth save.

The RiverHawks are back in action on Saturday with a 6:05 CDT start in Washington for game two of the three-game series. The RiverHawks return to Loves Park for a three-game series against Gateway beginning on Monday, July 17.
