Arndt to manage Frontier League All-Stars
« Back

July 5, 2006 - LOVES PARK, Ill. – Rockford RiverHawks manager J.D. Arndt and his coaching staff are headed to the Frontier League All-Star Game.

The RiverHawks staff will coach the West Division All-Stars in the annual game, scheduled for 7:05 p.m. CDT Wednesday, July 12 at Bosse Field in Evansville, Ind.

Arndt and his staff clinched the lead in the division by the cutoff point for all-star selection, the end of play July 5. Rockford led the West by 2½ games entering the day's play.

Arndt is a first-year manager. He spent the last three years as the team’s hitting coach. Arndt has also managed the Athletes in Action team in the Alaska League, a summer NCAA-sanctioned college league, and had been the hitting coach at NAIA powerhouse Missouri Baptist University.

The Rockford coaching staff includes bench coach Bob Koopmann, bullpen coach Sam Knaack, infield coach Mike Croley, outfield coach Marcus Bond and pitching coach Derek Roper, who doubles as the team’s No. 1 starter.

This is the second time in three years Rockford’s manager has been invited to coach the all-stars. Koopmann was the Rockford manager in 2004, when the RiverHawks led at the all-star break. He was unable to coach in the all-star game because of the impending birth of his son. River City manager Randy Martz and the Rockford coaches ran the team for that year’s game, at O’Fallon, Mo.

The RiverHawks are members of the Frontier League, a 10-team independent professional baseball league that will play its 14th season in 2006. Advertising, ticket and suite information is available by calling the box office at (815) 885-2255. All games are broadcast live on WRHL-FM, 102.3 – the Hub and online at www.rockfordriverhawks.com.
