June 25, 2006 - LOVES PARK, Ill. – Perry Cunningham completed the Chillicothe pitching staff’s domination of the Rockford offense this weekend.
Cunningham pitched a one-hit shutout on Sunday as the Paints beat the RiverHawks, 3-0. Chillicothe completed a three-game sweep in which the RiverHawks were shut out twice and held to a total of one run on eight hits over the series’ length.
The RiverHawks were swept for the first time at brand-new RiverHawks Stadium. The Paints have won eight in a row.
Cunningham (4-2) had a no-hitter until Scott Lefler led off the sixth inning with a single through the hole at shortstop. Cunningham struck out five and walked two.
Chillicothe led from the second inning on. Travis Garcia singled in a run in the second, then doubled the lead with a RBI double in the sixth. Jud Richards followed with a sacrifice fly.
Rockford starter Derek Roper (2-3) lost despite striking out seven in six innings.
The RiverHawks head to Kalamazoo for three 5:35 p.m. CDT games against the defending Frontier League champions. They return home on Thirsty Thursday for a three-game series against Traverse City. The homestand begins with a Miller Lite Dollar Beer Night, sponsored by 104.9 – the X.
