June 12, 2006 - LOVES PARK, Ill. – Steve Shippey succeeded with barely minimum effort.

The Traverse City pitcher faced two batters over the minimum and shut out the Rockford RiverHawks, 2-0, on Monday at RiverHawks Stadium.

Shippey (3-1) did not allow a runner beyond second base. After Joe Anthonsen extended his hitting streak to 11 games with a leadoff single in the first inning, Shippey retired nine in a row. Shippey threw a two-hitter, struck out three and walked one.

Rockford starter Garrett Bauer (2-1) gave up four hits in seven innings, but took the loss. The Beach Bums scored an unearned run in the first inning. With one out, Steve Young walked and went to third on an error by Anthonsen, the Rockford second baseman. Al Roach drove in Young on a force play.
