RiverHawks Stadium gets special shower on sunny day
« Back

May 24, 2006 - LOVES PARK, Ill. – RiverHawks Stadium will officially open on Wednesday, May 31, but today it was open to select members of the Rockford area. Three representatives of the religious community were on hand to give the new park a blessing.

Father Brian Olson of St. Bridget, Major Jordan of the Salvation Army, and Pastor Gordy of Hartland came together at home plate. They each said a prayer, then prayed together. Father Olson then blessed the field with holy water.

But the stadium did not just receive a spiritual blessing from Father Olson. “This will be a great place for family entertainment,” he said. The trio will find that out first hand, as each received tickets to see the RiverHawks in action.

“This is a great opportunity to combine two very important facets of the Rockford area – the spiritual community and the entertainment that the RiverHawks provide,” said organizer Adam Lewis.

Opening Day at RiverHawks Stadium is 7:05 p.m. Wednesday, May 31. The RiverHawks are members of the Frontier League, a 10-team independent professional baseball league that will play its 14th season in 2006. Advertising, ticket and suite information is available by calling the box office at (815) 964-2255. All games are broadcast live on WRHL-FM, 102.3 – the Hub and online at www.rockfordriverhawks.com.
