April 27, 2006 - LOVES PARK, Ill. – The Rockford RiverHawks are entrusting their merchandising strategy to a decorated military veteran.
The RiverHawks announced today that they have hired Erin Colombi as their new director of merchandise.
Colombi comes to the RiverHawks with a wealth of life experience. On March 13, she completed a six-year enlistment with the U.S. Army Reserve unit based out of Rockford. Colombi was an ammunition specialist with the 826th Ordnance Co. and served a 10-month tour in Afghanistan during Operation Enduring Freedom.
“Ninety million dollars’ worth of ammunition, you have to be ready to supply it to Special Forces or whoever needs it on the spot,” Colombi said.
Her duties in her civilian profession will include purchasing of product, hiring staff, inventory control, customer service and marketing both the brick-and-mortar and the brand-new online store. By summer, fans will be able to order product online.
Colombi’s list of awards and honors includes: Army Service Ribbon (Dec. 2004), Armed Forces Reserve Medal (Dec. ’04), Global War on Terrorism Service Medal (Dec. ’04), Glocal War on Terrorism Medal (Dec. ’04), two National Defense Service Medals (both awarded Dec. ’04), Army Reserve Achievement Medal (Dec. ’04), Army Achievement Medal (Dec. ’04) and the Army Award of Excellence (July ’04). She was honorably discharged from active duty in December, 2004.
Colombi, 24, is a resident of Rockford. She is currently a student at Rock Valley College, where she is majoring in education. She is a 2000 graduate of Rockford East High School. Colombi has coached co-ed volleyball at St. James Catholic School and fifth- and sixth-grade girls’ basketball at Carlson Boys and Girls Club. She still plays volleyball three nights a week.
