Former 'Hawk Olson back in Double-A
« Back

April 10, 2006 - Former Rockford RiverHawk Justin Olson is still two steps from becoming the first former player to reach the major leagues.

Olson, a Minnesota Twins farmhand, began his second season with their Double-A Eastern League affiliate last week. On Friday, he made his debut in the Rock Cats' 7-3 loss to visiting New Hampshire. Olson gave up a run on two hits in 2 2/3 innings. He struck out three of the 10 batters he faced.

The former University of Illinois righthander is part of an oddity in team history. Shortly after his 11-strikeout, four-appearance stint with the RiverHawks in June 2003 earned him an offer from the Twins, he was followed on the Rockford roster by another righty named Justin Olson. The latter played at Western Oregon University.
