RiverHawks Fan Fest 2006 features former Cub Madlock

April 5, 2006 - LOVES PARK, Ill. – A fixture on Rock River Valley sports fans’ calendar returns next month and it will feature an iconic hitter of the 1970s and ‘80s.

The Rockford RiverHawks today announced their plans for Fan Fest Weekend 2006, a two-day event to be held 10 a.m.-3 p.m. Saturday, May 6 at RiverHawks Stadium and 12-5 p.m. Sunday, May 7 at JD’s Sports Bar and Grill, 908 W. Riverside.

This year’s featured guest is four-time batting champion and former Chicago Cub Bill Madlock. Madlock will be available to meet fans, sign autographs and take questions from the crowd at Day 2 of Fan Fest on Sunday.

Day 1 is a Meet Your Seat event at the new stadium. Fans will have the chance to choose their seat by buying season tickets. The RiverHawks will provide tours of the stadium, as well as complimentary hot dogs and beverages. In addition, the RiverHawks will premier their state-of-the-art Kids Zone inflatable play areas.

Fans who purchase a full-season ticket package at the event will have special VIP status at Day 2 of Fan Fest, May 7 at JD’s. Not only will they receive a free ticket to Fan Fest for every season ticket purchased, but they will have exclusive access to Madlock and the other guests for the first 30 minutes of Fan Fest. In addition, they can bring up to two items to be autographed by each celebrity. Other fans can enter the autograph line at 12:30 p.m. and are limited to one autograph per celebrity.

Madlock hit .305 in a 15-year career spent with Texas, Chicago, San Francisco, Pittsburgh, Los Angeles and Detroit. He won batting titles in 1975 and 1976 with the Cubs, and in 1981 and 1983 with the Pirates. Madlock shared Most Valuable Player honors at the 1975 All-Star Game with the Mets’ Jon Matlack and also appeared in the 1981 and 1983 midsummer classics.

Other special guests will include current and former RiverHawks, former Rockford Peaches, members of the coaching staff and Rocko the RiverHawk.

Tickets for the event are just $6 each, with a portion of the proceeds going to charity. Fans will also have the chance to purchase season-ticket packages and guarantee a seat at the first game at the RiverHawks’ new stadium. Fan Fest 2006 tickets can also be purchased in advance at JD’s by calling 639-9488 or at Johnny O’s Mobile Sports by calling 226-8428 or visiting its location at 4403-B Center Terrace. Ticket sales begin Monday, April 10.

Opening Day at RiverHawks Stadium is 7:05 p.m. Wednesday, May 31. The RiverHawks are members of the Frontier League, a 10-team independent professional baseball league that will play its 14th season in 2006.
