« Back

April 5, 2006 - LOVES PARK, Ill. – Frontier League commissioner Bill Lee visited RiverHawks Stadium today to give his formal approval for the Rockford RiverHawks to play the 2006 season in the brand-new ballpark.

“Today was a significant step in preparing for Opening Day,” RiverHawks general manager Josh Olerud said. “In addition to gaining clearance from the league, the stadium itself is visibly coming together.

“Bill has been in the game for years, and he’s been through several stadium openings in the Frontier League. It was encouraging to get his thoughts and his guidance as we near completion of the stadium.”

Progress includes at a steady pace at the privately funded facility, located at 4503 Interstate Blvd. The entryway arch was lifted into place this morning by contractors from Professional Steel Services of Machesney Park. In addition, installation of seats has proceeded to nearly the 50-percent point of completion, installation of the terrace-box suites has begun and the stadium lights were turned on today.

Opening Day at brand-new RiverHawks Stadium is 7:05 p.m. Wednesday, May 31, when the ‘Hawks host the Evansville Otters. The RiverHawks are members of the Frontier League, a 10-team independent professional baseball league that will play its 14th season in 2006. Advertising, season-ticket and suite information is available by calling the box office at (815) 885-2255. Fans can also visit the RiverHawks online at www.rockfordriverhawks.com.
