RiverHawks set to host softball tournament

October 26, 2011 - LOVES PARK, Ill. – The fall season at Road Ranger Stadium continues this weekend with a slow pitch men’s softball tournament beginning at 8:30 a.m. Saturday.

Ten teams will participate in the two-day, double elimination tournament. Five of the teams are from the Stateline region, and the other five are from the Chicago area. The tournament will run all day Saturday and Sunday until it is too dark to continue play.

This is the second consecutive year the Rockford RiverHawks have hosted this tournament.

“We did the tournament at Road Ranger Stadium last year, and by April of this year players were asking me if we would do it again,” tournament director Chad Austin said. “It is a lot of fun for everybody, and we are looking to make it an annual event.”

“Road Ranger Stadium is fully capable of hosting baseball and softball games well into the fall,” director of operations Chris Daleo said. “This tournament will bring in a whole different demographic as compared to our youth baseball tournaments, and we are pleased to cater to both groups.”

The RiverHawks are members of the Frontier League, a 12-team independent professional baseball league that will play its 20th season in 2012. Advertising and season ticket information is available by calling (815) 885-2255. Fans can also visit www.rockfordriverhawks.com.
